Review:

Dunkadillo is a Platformer released in 2025 on PC and Nintendo Switch. In this game, players take the role of an armadillo who rolls himself up to become a basketball, bouncing his way through levels to get through a basketball hoop that marks the level’s exit.

The presentation here is wonderful, giving players simple but colorful and evocative retro-style 3D visuals much like what we saw in developer Thomas K. young’s previous work, Be Brave, Barb, with a style that seems to mimic classic Sonic the Hedgehog games. This is joined by a really catchy soundtrack with upbeat themes, including Title Theme, Breezing By, RibbitGuy Hip Hop, and 10TACLE R4V3.

As much as I love this game’s presentation, I’m not quite so fond of the gameplay. This entire game’s gimmick is that your character is constantly bouncing, and you have no control over that. All you can do is move left and right, and double-jump once in mid-air. I don’t feel like the “always bouncing” thing is put to especially good use here, it’s just an annoyance. And while I can recognize that this game’s level design is clever, I feel like I’d enjoy it more if it was just a standard Platformer.

With this being the case, I can’t really recommend Dunkadillo, especially when you have similar, better games from this developer like the aforementioned Be Brave, Barb and the Dadish series. If you haven’t already, I suggest getting one of those games instead of this.

tl;dr – Dunkadillo is a Platformer where players control an armadillo that rolls up into a basketball and is always bouncing. This always bouncing gimmick is more frustrating than fun, and while this game has a great presentation, I think you have better options on Nintendo Switch.
