Review:

Scrap Divers is an Arcade-style game released in 2022 on mobile devices and then ported in 2025 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. In this game, players take the role of one of various robots flung into a seemingly endless vertical shaft, trying to move to avoid hitting obstructions on the way down as they collect the golden bolts that act as this game’s currency.

The gameplay here is exceedingly simple, just having players move around the screen as the corridor rushes toward you, optionally choosing to dive faster if you need to. Yet despite this simplicity, the game’s randomized layouts and different areas continue to provide new and interesting challenges as you progress.

In addition to this, as you play and earn bolts, you’ll be able to spend them, either to “lock in” your progress to a certain point down the shaft, or to unlock other robots to play as, each with their own upsides and downsides. There are also “quests” to complete to earn extra bolts on the side, like

The presentation here is decent, blending 2D pixel art with simple 3D for a vaguely retro visual presentation, joined by a surprisingly catchy chiptune surf rock soundtrack, with good examples including Surftune, Jingling Scraps, and Reach the Bottom.

When it comes to complaints, I’m not thrilled with the way your robot blocks the view of what’s underneath him, and it’s also difficult to judge exactly where you are in relation to the obstacles rushing up toward you. Also, despite the variety in environments, this game is still pretty repetitive.

However, for a mere $5, Scrap Divers is a pretty enjoyable time-waster, and one I can easily see players having a good time going back to play for a few minutes at a time between larger games. It may have some gameplay issues and it may be a bit too shallow to want to play for too long, but Scrap Divers is nevertheless really enjoyable in short bursts.

tl;dr – Scrap Divers is an Arcade-style game that has players maneuvering a robot down a vertical mine shaft, trying to avoid obstacles. It’s a simple and repetitive game, but still manages to be enjoyable thanks to the variety in the environments and unlockables. This isn’t a game you’ll be likely to play for more than a few minutes at a time, but as a $5 time-waster, it’s pretty entertaining for those few minutes.
