WARNING: THIS GAME HEAVILY PUSHES MICROTRANSACTIONS

This is my second time looking at Rocket League on Nintendo Switch 2 (you can see my first look here), and that is because in early 2026 the game added new enhancements specifically for Nintendo Switch 2. This isn’t technically a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, nor a Nintendo Switch 2-specific release. Rather, the Nintendo Switch version of the game has been adapted to detect if it is playing on Nintendo Switch 2, upon which it will enable these new enhancements. Let’s take a look!

When I checked this game previously, I noted that the only major change was to loading times, taking the 42 seconds the game takes to load up on Nintendo Switch down to 18 on Nintendo Switch 2. These times have all changed with the recent update – for the worse on Nintendo Switch, and for the better on Nintendo Switch 2. Now it takes 50 seconds to load the game on Nintendo Switch, but only 15 seconds on Nintendo Switch 2. Loading up a match has gone from 13 seconds on Nintendo Switch to 4 seconds on Nintendo Switch 2. In other words, Nintendo Switch 2 is going to save you a lot of time playing this game and make you look at loading screens far less.

However, that’s not all. Rocket League gives players a choice between graphics and performance modes on Nintendo Switch, and on Nintendo Switch 2, these options are now removed. This is because on Nintendo Switch 2, you’re basically getting the best of both of these modes combined together – full 60FPS framerates with 1080p resolution, both in docked and handheld mode. The latter of these is surprising since the original Nintendo Switch was incapable of 1080p in handheld mode, so this gives us an indication that Nintendo Switch games can indeed be designed to output higher resolution than the system is capable of supporting.

In addition to this, playing the game on Nintendo Switch 2 gives players more detailed textures, improved lighting, higher-quality shadows, and additional visual effects. This is most noticeable in the grass, which looks far more detailed on Nintendo Switch 2 than it does on Nintendo Switch, regardless of which mode you choose on the older platform.

Taking all of this together, Rocket League just became dramatically better on Nintendo Switch 2 thanks to the addition of a free patch to the original game. This was already a phenomenal free-to-play game and it is even better now on Nintendo Switch 2.

tl;dr – Rocket League has players using cars to play soccer, hockey, and basketball, and it is an absolute blast to play. It now features improved performance and visuals on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to the original Nintendo Switch, and it’s loaded with options and a wealth of multiplayer features. What’s more, the change to free-to-play has made it even easier to take the plunge, as it not only removes the entry fee and the need to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online for online play, but it actually has less monetization now than when I first reviewed it. If you’re looking to add a great free-to-play game to your Nintendo Switch 2 library, consider this a must-have.

Review:

WARNING: THIS GAME HEAVILY PUSHES ITS PAID SEASON PASS

It seems that I missed an update released for Fall Guys in July 2025 (I was probably busy playing Donkey Kong Bananza). While not specifically released for the Nintendo Switch 2, this update unlocks framerates for the game, giving it a potential performance boost on Nintendo Switch 2. Let’s have a look!

First, I have to mention that Fall Guys seems more stable on the original Nintendo Switch than I recall it being when I first reviewed it. It still has its issues, but it does seem like an overall smoother experience. However, this is no match for the smooth 60FPS framerates the game now has on Nintendo Switch 2 – there’s a significant difference you can immediately see, and it makes the game that much more enjoyable to play.

However, that’s not the only improvement here. As per usual, we also see improvements to loading times. On the original Nintendo Switch, it takes the game 50 seconds to load to the title screen. On Nintendo Switch 2, that’s cut down to 17 seconds.

In addition, navigating menus on Nintendo Switch 2 is a much smoother and less clunky experience, with less lag between menus. This may seem like a small thing, but not having clunky menu navigation absolutely makes the game an overall more satisfying experience.

All added together, this makes for a much more satisfying game on Nintendo Switch 2, and while it still has its flaws, I still think Fall Guys is a solid addition to Nintendo Switch 2’s free-to-play lineup, even if this is still technically the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

tl;dr – Fall Guys is a free-to-play online-focused multiplayer game that has players competing in a variety of different competitions with up to 59 other players. While there’s a decent variety in the gameplay, and some fun to be had doing so, the sluggish controls feel limiting. Thankfully, improved framerates, loading times, and menu navigation on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to Nintendo Switch make a big difference here. The result is a game that, while it has its issues, is still a really enjoyable free-to-play game well worth checking out on Nintendo Switch 2.
