Review:

Bullets & Brains is a 2-Stick Shooter with some light Roguelike elements released in 2025 on PC and Nintendo Switch. This game has players taking the role of one of various survivors fighting off zombie hordes as they scout locations around their survivor camp.

The presentation here is sufficient, but nothing extraordinary – simple 3D visuals with a cel shading effect backed by energetic music that’s drowned out by the unimpressive gun sounds and typical zombie groans. It’s not bad, but it’s also nothing memorable.

I suppose the same holds true for the gameplay. Quite simply, this is a decent but unspectacular 2-Stick Shooter with a Roguelike upgrade mechanic within the game’s levels, and that’s about it. There are a few different level types, such as taking out an enemy-spawning nest or surviving through multiple waves of incoming zombies, but it all works out to you dodging around while you shoot your way through the horde, with a requirement to reload your weapon repeatedly that doesn’t really add to the strategy and just makes the gameplay a bit more unsatisfying.

In the end, I think Bullets & Brains is a mildly-enjoyable 2-Stick Shooter, but one that doesn’t do anything especially original, or do anything especially well. And at $15, I think players have numerous better options when it comes to 2-Stick Shooters on Nintendo Switch.

tl;dr – Bullets & Brains is a 2-Stick Shooter with light Roguelike elements that’s decent, but not very original or satisfying in its gameplay or presentation. And for $15, you have numerous better options on Nintendo Switch.

Grade: C
