Review:

Super Yellow Ballman is an Arcade-style game released on Nintendo Switch in 2025. In this game, players control a ball that they use to complete mazes and bash enemies.

What this basically amounts to are some levels that play a bit like a maze game where you’re being mindful of momentum and trying to avoid obstacles while navigating to an exit, and other levels that have you moving around an arena trying to use boosts to bash into enemies to damage them while avoiding them doing much the same.

Unfortunately, there’s just not much depth or gameplay variety here. Once you understand the basics everything just feels like a slight variation of that, there’s little nuance to the gameplay, and even the physics feel stiff and not very fun.

What’s perhaps even more unfortunate is that you can easily see how this could have been improved. The fact that this game only supports 2 players when it could have easily worked fine with 4 or even 8 definitely makes it seem like the game’s creators either couldn’t see that potential or weren’t skilled enough to deliver it. I could absolutely see this basic gameplay being developed into a multiplayer arena with wacky power-ups, a variety of game modes, interesting maps… but all of that is a “what if” that this game completely fails to deliver on.

The presentation doesn’t do the game any favors either, using extremely simple-looking 2D pixel art visuals that are repetitive and ugly, backed by similarly repetitive music.

I suppose for a game priced under $3, Super Yellow Ballman can’t exactly be expected to compete with the likes of the Super Monkey Ball games, but even for a budget title, this feels like a huge missed opportunity. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t offer anything that’s going to be engaging for players after a short playthrough, after which they’ll likely never bother with it again. If you’re considering buying this game, just save up your money and buy a Super Monkey Ball game instead.

tl;dr – Super Yellow Ballman is an Arcade-style game where players control a ball that they use to navigate mazes and bash into enemies. The gameplay here is far too simple and repetitive, with shallow game mechanics, lacking features, and an ugly, boring presentation. Even at the budget price of under $3, this game isn’t worth it.
