NeonPowerup! is a Puzzle-Platformer released in 2023 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This game has players going through single-screen levels and trying to collect all of each level’s gems by making smart use of power-ups strewn throughout the level.

The clever thing that NeonPowerup! does is that while players have unlimited use of a power-up after getting it, they can only have one power-up at a time, meaning they need to be smart about which power-up to pick up and when to get it. This combines with some decent level design to make for pretty good Puzzle-Platformer gameplay, though your character is still a bit limited, with a pretty pathetic jump by default.

This gameplay is joined by a presentation that uses decent but simple 2D pixel art visuals, along with a repetitive chiptune soundtrack. It all works, but there’s nothing especially memorable going on here.

Overall, I think for only $5, NeonPowerup! is a decent little Puzzle-Platformer. This game isn’t likely to impress in any way, but what’s here is decent, with good puzzle design and level design. Given its low price, I think it’s worth a look.

tl;dr – NeonPowerup! is a Puzzle-Platformer where players need to collect all gems in a level by making smart use of that level’s power-ups. This isn’t a game that’s going to truly impact the genre, but for only $5, it’s worth a look.
