Review:
Deadzone: Rogue is a First-Person Shooter and Roguelike released in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and ported in 2026 to Nintendo Switch 2. This game has players waking up on a space station orbiting Earth being attacked by hordes of machine enemies.
The presentation here is good but nothing fantastic, especially compared to what we know the Nintendo Switch 2 is capable of. This game’s 3D visuals are good for the gameplay, and there are even a few nice lighting and atmospheric effects, but I don’t see how this couldn’t have been done on the original Nintendo Switch, perhaps with compromises to resolution and framerate. These visuals are backed by a synthesized soundtrack that fits the game’s sci-fi themes well.
When it comes to the core gameplay, this is pretty basic First-Person Shooter stuff. Enemy AI isn’t especially impressive and in fact can be a bit dumb at times, your move set isn’t particularly varied, and there doesn’t seem much depth or nuance here beyond the decent variety of weaponry you can pick up in each run and some good enemy variety. At the very least I can say this basic gameplay is well-crafted and works well enough, and you even have good gyroscopic motion controls and dynamic MouseMode support.
However, what makes Deadzone: Rogue more than just your average First-Person Shooter is its Roguelike elements, and here I feel like it excels, giving players a healthy selection of randomized options that expand as you play, with a good feeling of progression through each run, good variety, and some really nice synergies. Plus there are permanent “Roguelite” upgrades to unlock as well.
Overall, I don’t think Deadzone: Rogue is a game changer, but it is a solid blend of First-Person Shooter and Roguelike. I don’t think its First-Person Shooter half is especially noteworthy, but the Roguelike side picks up the slack there, delivering a satisfying experience that’s well worth picking up for First-Person Shooter fans.
tl;dr – Deadzone: Rogue is a First-Person Shooter and Roguelike set on a space station orbiting Earth. The First-Person Shooter half of the game is decent but nothing special, but the game is elevated by its Roguelike elements, which add some enjoyable variety and progression. The result is a game well worth trying out on Nintendo Switch 2.
