Here’s the games I have reviewed so far on the Nintendo Switch 2 in this genre, from best to worst. Note: If multiple games have the same score, they will be sorted alphabetically.
3D Platformer
| Game | Genre | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Donkey Kong Bananza | 3D Platformer | A++ |
tl;drDonkey Kong Bananza is the long-awaited return of Donkey Kong in a massive family-friendly 3D Platformer that is one of the best games the genre has ever received, giving players the freedom to go almost anywhere and destroy almost everything, yet this destruction is harnessed with exemplary level design and wonderful gameplay, with a gorgeous presentation that is a showpiece for what the Nintendo Switch 2 can do. This game ain’t perfect – it has a slow start and the performance briefly struggles in places. However, none of this changes that this is an absolute must-have game on Nintendo Switch 2, and a reason to buy the console. | ||
| Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World | 3D Platformer | A+ |
tl;drKirby and the Forgotten Land is a family-friendly 3D Platformer that marks Kirby’s first fully-fledged 3D adventure, and it is an outstanding game that is one of the best titles in the Kirby franchise. While I have a few complaints about the relatively easy difficulty level, overall this game is an absolute blast to play, full of personality and originality, all while drawing inspiration from some of the best Mario and Donkey Kong games, as well as Kirby’s own 2D adventures. What’s more, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition doubles the framerate and adds a collection of excellent new levels to play through. If you enjoy Platformers, you should absolutely get this game. | ||
| Split Fiction | 3D Platformer / Action | A |
tl;drSplit Fiction is a 2-player Co-Op-exclusive 3D Platformer and Action game from the folks who made It Takes Two, and this game takes that formula and turns it up a notch with one great action set piece after another, and with an excellent story about two aspiring authors trapped in a simulation together playing out each of their works. This game gives players just about every possible way to play together, and it’s well-worth doing so – this is an outstanding game that you should absolutely play so long as you have someone to play it with. | ||
| Yooka-Replaylee | 3D Platformer | B+ |
tl;drYooka-Laylee is a 3D platformer that deliberately follows in the footsteps of the classic Banjo-Kazooie, and it definitely still has that same sort of magic, even if it’s a formula that feels like it’s aged poorly in some areas. This reworked version of the game on Nintendo Switch 2 is a massive overhaul that tows the line between remaster and remake, and is absolutely the best version of the game, and a must-play for fans of 3D Platformers. | ||
| SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide | 3D Platformer | B- |
tl;drSpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a 3D Platformer that follows in the footsteps of Battle for Bikini Bottom and The Cosmic Shake to be yet another solid, if unambitious, entry in the genre. However, on Nintendo Switch 2 this is marred somewhat by some nasty framerate issues. Despite this, Titans of the Tide remains an entertaining game that series fans will be sure to enjoy. | ||
| Human Fall Flat – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | 3D Platformer / Puzzle-Platformer | C+ |
tl;drHuman: Fall Flat is a 3D Platformer and physics-based Puzzle-Platformer where players must make use of the game’s heavily physics-based nature to reach the end of each level. These sandbox-style elements are absolutely delightful and make for some truly joyous moments, but that joy is heavily marred by this game’s poor and frustrating controls. This is a divisive game, and more than most games I can’t tell you whether you’re likely to enjoy it. Just know that this game has some really rewarding gameplay, but you have to put up with a lot of frustration to get to it. | ||
