Games under 250MB

GameGenreSizeGrade
Animal WellMetroidvania / Puzzle-Platformer84MBA
tl;drAnimal Well is a Metroidvania with strong Puzzle-Platforming elements where players take the role of a small blob in a series of caves and ruins teeming with a variety of fauna and flora that they must explore. This game is a masterpiece of graphical design, audio design, puzzle design, and gameplay design. While it falls just short of perfect due to a few minor annoyances, overall this is a game that should be considered a must-play for fans of either Metroidvanias or Puzzle-Platformers.
Axiom VergeMetroidvania214MBA
tl;drAxiom Verge is a Metroidvania that is the closest thing to Super Metroid outside of the Metroid series itself, yet it still maintains its own identity, with its own bizarre alien world, an intriguing plot, and unique powers based on the “glitchy” infection spreading through the game’s world. While the game has a few flaws keeping it from perfection (some control issues and a fairly high difficulty level), it is still a phenomenal game that fans of Metroidvanias absolutely need to get.
Shovel Knight: Shovel of HopeAction-Platformer228MBA
tl;drShovel Knight: Shovel of Hope is an Action-Platformer that is the first game in the Shovel Knight series. It melds together some of the best parts of classic NES games to create something that is surprisingly original and nostalgic at the same time. Fans of platformers in general absolutely should have this game in their collection.
Steamworld Dig 2Platformer178MBA
tl;drSteamworld Dig 2, like the first game, is a Platformer about a robot in a world of robots digging for treasures in an old mine shaft. It makes good use of Roguelike and Metroidvania elements, and has solid platforming and a unique presentation. However, this sequel improves on the first game in just about every way, with more player options, more varied environments, and a longer campaign with a more interesting story. This is a must-have for fans of Platformers, and a no-brainer for anyone who enjoyed the first game.
Tents and TreesPicross-style Puzzle110MBA
tl;drTents and Trees is a type of family-friendly Puzzle that’s somewhat similar to Picross, albeit with slightly different rules. While this iteration of Tents and Trees doesn’t do anything that’s particularly revolutionary, every single part of this game is polished and high in quality, from the great gameplay, good amount of content, and excellent features, to the classy visuals and wonderfully relaxing soundtrack. If you’re looking for a wonderful Puzzle game to chill with, this is an absolutely ideal choice.
AggelosMetroidvania234MBA-
tl;drAggelos is a Metroidvania game that doesn’t really innovate, but nevertheless delivers an absolutely superb experience with gameplay elements reminiscent of Zelda II, Castlevania II and other classic NES games, but with today’s great gameplay and game design. Well worth owning for fans of the genre.
Baba Is YouPuzzle177MBA-
tl;drBaba Is You is a character-based puzzle game with wildly inventive mechanics that have you pushing around words to change the rules that the game follows. While the presentation leaves something to be desired, the gameplay here is so absolutely inspired that it really should be played by anyone looking for something new and different, especially fans of puzzle games.
BalatroTurn-Based Card RPG / Roguelike156MBA-
tl;dr Balatro is a Turn-Based Card RPG and Roguelike that starts with a standard deck of poker cards that players gradually trade out and upgrade, aiming to keep racking up increasingly high scores to get as far as they can. While this game has a few rough spots, overall this is a brilliant mix of accessibility and exquisitely-crafted gameplay that puts it on par with the likes of Slay the Spire as the best this genre has to offer. This is an absolute must-play for any fans of this genre.
Blaster Master Zero 2Metroidvania / Top-Down Action220MBA-
tl;drLike its predecessor, Blaster Master Zero 2 is an Action-packed Metroidvania in the same style of the original Nintendo Entertainment System game, although this game is completely new, building on the formula laid down in Blaster Master Zero while adding new gameplay elements that are worked into the game’s design and really do a good job of improving the overall experience. This game does still suffer the same flaws its predecessor had, but overall it’s a better experience, and a fantastic game fans of Metroidvanias and Action games should give a try.
Bug Fables: The Everlasting SaplingTurn-Based RPG247MBA-
tl;drBug Fables is a family-friendly Turn-Based RPG made in the style of the first two Paper Mario games, featuring similar gameplay and presentation. The RPG elements here are solid, and the game’s story is wonderful, with some truly memorable characters. However, I feel like the desire to make this game like Paper Mario kept it from striking out on its own, with elements like platforming that simply aren’t very good. This is still a superb RPG, though.
Castle Crashers RemasteredArcade Brawler153MBA-
tl;drCastle Crashers Remastered is a port of the 2008 Arcade Brawler with updated visuals, all previously-released DLC, and a new game mode. Well, the new game mode is terrible, but the core game is still as great as ever, and fans of the genre who haven’t already played this game to death on other platforms should consider this one a must-have.
CindersVisual Novel213MBA-
tl;drCinders is a Visual Novel that takes the classic Cinderella story and breathes new life into it with excellent writing, three-dimensional interpretations of the old story’s characters, and choices that actually matter to the flow of the story. There’s nothing truly revolutionary here to change the Visual Novel genre, but rather a game that makes use of the genre to its fullest, and anyone who enjoys a good, well-told story should absolutely give it a look.
Drawful 2Party Game84MBA-
tl;drDrawful 2 is a Party Game that players play using their Smartphone instead of a controller. This game challenges players to use their touchscreens to sketch out various prompts and then vote on what other players’ prompts are depicting. This game is a noteworthy improvement over the original, but it’s debatable whether the $10 for this one game is a better value than the $25 for The Jackbox Party Pack containing the first Drawful. Regardless, this is an excellent Party Game, and fans of the genre should certainly get at least one of the games in this series.
Explosionade DXAction-Platformer / 2-Stick Shooter162MBA-
tl;drExplosionade is an Action-Platformer with 2-Stick Shooter mechanics and some really delightful game mechanics like its shield/anti-gravity mechanic and adaptable grenades. It’s a bit short and lacking in content, but it’s more than worth its small $6 price tag, and fans of the genre should absolutely give this game a try.
Fibbage XLParty Game (Trivia)103MBA-
tl;drFibbage XL is a Party Game where players are given an obscure question and prompted to create their own fake answer. Then players try to guess the correct answer from within all of the fake ones. It’s a hilarious spin on the trivia game that means that even if you’re not a trivia master you can still score big by fooling others. This is an all-around fantastic game, and it touts an additional 50% more questions than the original Fibbage. Having said that, this game is already included in the first of the Jackbox Party Pack series on the Nintendo Switch, so players might want to weigh the value of this game against that package.
FlinthookAction-Platformer / Roguelike215MBA-
tl;drFlinthook is an Action-Platformer with Roguelike elements that has you fighting through room after room of space pirates with a blaster gun and a grappling hook. The game looks and sounds great, and the grappling hook makes for some really fun gameplay that makes just moving around a joy. It’s a tough game, and the Roguelike elements do have a few issues, but overall this is an excellent Action-Platformer well worth playing.
IslandersManagement Sim / Puzzle154MBA-
tl;drIslanders is a family-friendly Management Sim-style game with Puzzle elements that has players placing buildings on procedurally-generated islands. This is a game that boils down the Management Sim genre to an elegant simplicity that makes for a truly compelling experience, and one that is absolutely worth the tiny $5 price tag, even if it could stand to have a little more depth.
LimboPuzzle-Platformer123MBA-
tl;drEven eight years after its first release, Limbo is still a master class in efficient game design, with excellent Puzzle-Platformer gameplay using simple, straightforward mechanics, and an impressive, memorable presentation that somehow fits within 123MB of memory. While the game’s gruesome imagery may scare off some, and its repeated and often necessary deaths do get frustrating, overall this is still a fantastic entry in the genre well worth owning on the Switch if you don’t already have it on another platform.
Mighty Gunvolt BurstAction-Platformer67MBA-
tl;drMighty Gunvolt Burst is an Action-Platformer that’s nominally a retro-styled combination of Mighty No. 9 and the Azure Striker Gunvolt series, but save for its characters it’s actually a refreshingly unique take on the classic Mega Man formula with an inspired weapon-creation system that makes this, in my opinion, the pinnacle of both game series. The game is a bit on the short side, but it also has a budget price, and given how much fun this small package is, I urge fans of the genre to give it a try.
Mini MetroPuzzle / Simulation211MBA-
tl;drMini Metro is a superb puzzle/sim game that has you drawing the map for a subway/light rail as more stops and more passengers demand to be delivered swiftly to their destination. Add in a clean, simple graphical interface perfectly suited for the game, and a soothing soundtrack, and you have a real winner here. The only thing that’s keeping this from puzzle perfection is a lack of options and stiff controls.
Mutant Mudds CollectionCompilation / Platformer / Falling Block Puzzle67MBA-
tl;drMutant Mudds Collection is a compilation of the two Mutant Mudds Platformer games and a new Puzzle game, with all three being good entries in their respective genres, and the collection overall being a fantastic value.
NeuroVoider2-Stick Shooter / Roguelike131MBA-
tl;drNeuroVoider is a combination of Two-Stick Shooter and Roguelike that has you fighting an army of robots, stealing their parts, and then using them to upgrade your own capabilities. It’s an incredibly fun game with great co-op, a fantastic presentation, and tons of variety and customization. The randomized level design and enemy AI could have used a bit of work, but on the whole this is an absolutely fantastic game that should be owned by anyone who enjoys a good Action game.
Riptide GP RenegadeFuturistic Racing152MBA-
tl;drRiptide GP: Renegade is a futuristic racing game that’s like someone took F-Zero, Wave Race, SSX, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and threw them into a blender. The result is an intense high-speed racing game that, while light on the number of tracks it offers, is nevertheless a fantastic entry in the genre, well worth getting.
Sega Ages Sonic the HedgehogPlatformer52MBA-
tl;drSonic the Hedgehog remains a classic platformer, and this release of the game adds in a slew of special features and challenge modes that aren’t in the Sega Genesis Classics collection.
Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog 2Platformer62MBA-
tl;drSonic the Hedgehog 2 is a classic Platformer originally released on the Sega Genesis, and it has aged pretty well. This release of the game adds in a slew of special features and challenge modes that aren’t in the Sega Genesis Classics collection. This is one of the highlights of the series, and well worth grabbing for any fan of Platformers.
SeveredFirst-Person Action-RPG153MBA-
tl;drSevered is a handheld-only First-Person Action-RPG about a girl with a severed arm fighting monsters in a nightmare realm to find her missing family. This game has a stylized, unique look and a wildly inventive combat system, and while the dungeon crawling elements here aren’t quite as inspired, the touchscreen combat is so well-crafted and fun that this should be a must-buy for players who play their Nintendo Switch primarily in handheld mode and don’t already have the game on another platform.
Shoot 1UP DXShmup153MBA-
tl;drShoot 1UP DX is a Shmup where players control an entire squadron of ships at once, adding potentially dozens of ships to their force. There are multiple creative fun mechanics at work here, difficulty options to cater to every skill level, and just overall this is one of the most enjoyable Shmups I’ve ever played. It’s not as precise and well-crafted as Ikaruga, but it is arguably just as much of a blast to play, and Shmup fans should absolutely add this game to their collection, especially at the fantastic price of $6. Do not miss this one!
Shovel Knight: Specter of TormentAction-Platformer248MBA-
tl;drShovel Knight: Specter of Torment is a standalone expansion to Shovel Knight, the second expansion out of four. This is an Action-Platformer that follows the Specter Knight boss from the first game, who has a unique move-set built around a wall run and a diagonal air slash attack. The game design and level design here is every bit as good as the first game, though it does re-use some assets and Specter Knight isn’t quite as fun a character to play as his shovel-wielding contemporary. Still, this is a solid entry in the series and an excellent Action-Platformer well worth playing.
Shovel Knight: King of CardsAction-Platformer237MBA-
tl;drShovel Knight: King of Cards is a standalone expansion to Shovel Knight, the third expansion out of four. This is an Action-Platformer that follows the King Knight boss from the first game, who has a unique and fun move-set built around combo-ing shoulder bashes into pirouette spins. The game design and level design here is every bit as good as the first game, though it does re-use some assets and makes some changes to the map that are a bit disappointing. Also, the newly-added card game is decent, but nothing truly great. Still, this is a solid entry in the series and an excellent Action-Platformer well worth playing.
Sonic ManiaPlatformer192MBA-
tl;drSonic Mania is a Platformer that mixes classic throwback levels with newer, remixed stage design to create something unique and refreshing that stands as the best the series has ever been. It may not top Mario in my book, but it’s a must-have game regardless.
Steamworld DigPlatformer96MBA-
tl;drSteamworld Dig is a Platformer about a robot in a world of robots digging for treasures in an old mineshaft. It makes good use of Roguelike and Metroidvania elements, and has solid platforming and a unique presentation. This is a game well worth getting.
Super Meat BoyPlatformer218MBA-
tl;drSuper Meat Boy is a challenging platformer with a great physics engine, superb gameplay, and a generally great presentation, and the Switch version even adds in a nice 2-player mode. But it also doesn’t have the original game’s fantastic soundtrack, and that’s a big loss for an otherwise incredible game.
Super Mega ZeroPlatformer / Shmup147MBA-
tl;drSuper Mega Zero is a challenging Platformer with some Shmup sections where players control a zero who can’t jump, but who can touch numbers to jump or dash that many times. This is one of many creative gameplay mechanics that this game is constantly adding into the mix, and combined with excellent level design, a fantastic soundtrack, and some really fun (if a bit overly-easy) Shmup levels all make for a game that’s a lot of fun, and should be a no-brainer for fans of challenging Platformers.
The Red Strings ClubGraphic Adventure247MBA-
tl;drThe Red Strings Club is a Graphic Adventure with an extremely well-written cerebral cyberpunk neo noir plot, and some great atmosphere to go with it, as well as some great bartending gameplay elements that fit surprisingly well with the game’s themes of emotional empathy and information gathering. It’s not super-long and the controls are less than ideal, but players looking for a fantastic, well-told story should absolutely look into this game.
Toodee and TopdeePuzzle-Platformer101MBA-
tl;drToodee and Topdee is a family-friendly Puzzle-Platformer that has players swapping between two characters – one who controls like a Platformer, and one who controls like a Top-Down character-driven Puzzle Game character. This game’s fantastic level design makes wonderful use of the game’s central gameplay mechanic, and supplements it with a nice presentation and adorable characters. There are a few places where this game could have been improved, but overall this is a phenomenal Puzzle game that fans of the genre should definitely play.
UndertaleTurn-Based RPG221MBA-
tl;drUndertale is an RPG that does all sorts of wild, inventive things with the genre, from its bullet hell-esque battle system to its quirky story about a world of monsters that you can opt to talk to or befriend instead of fight. It’s not an RPG for everyone, but fans of the genre absolutely should give it a try.
VVVVVVPlatformer113MBA-
tl;drVVVVVV is a gravity-changing Platformer designed to look like an old-school Commodore 64 game, but its simple exterior hides an extremely well-designed game underneath, with a memorable soundtrack, excellent level design, and a really good challenge level. Also, the Nintendo Switch version is the definitive version of the game, with more features and a better framerate than other versions. It’s just a shame that the game is still too damn short. Still, it’s amazing while it lasts.
World of GooPuzzle131MBA-
tl;drWorld of Goo is a physics-based puzzle game that’s oozing with personality and overflowing with inventive ideas.
XeodrifterMetroidvania84MBA-
tl;drXeodrifter is a Metroidvania game that really does a good job of feeling like a Metroid game, although it’s a bite-size experience that lacks the scope of the actual Metroid titles.
7 Billion HumansPuzzle200MBB+
tl;dr7 Billion Humans is a Puzzle game about creating a set of instructions for a group of employees to follow to complete various spatial organization tasks. This is a direct follow-up to Human Resource Machine, and it improves on that game in multiple ways, although the presentation is still a bit lacking and the game may still be daunting to more casual players. Still, if you’re looking for a good Puzzle game that’s also a nice introduction to the world of programming, this is an excellent choice.
Art of BalancePuzzle201MBB+
tl;drArt of Balance is a physics-based Puzzle game where you stack blocks and try to keep them from tipping over or falling. This version has a decent amount of content and some multiplayer modes, and the core gameplay here is still as solid as ever.
Bleed 2Action-Platformer / 2-Stick Shooter183MBB+
tl;drBleed 2 is an Action-Platformer and 2-Stick Shooter with a simple, cartoony presentation and a silly story about a girl fending off an invasion. This game improves on the first one in almost every way, with even better action, better visuals, a great soundtrack, and the same wonderful variety, great level design, and excellent co-op. However, where it doesn’t improve on the first game is value – the main campaign can still be finished in an hour or so, and the extra game modes don’t stretch things out much more than that. For $20, I simply cannot recommend this game, but definitely get it if you see it on sale.
Bloodstained: Curse of the MoonAction-Platformer53MBB+
tl;drBloodstained: Curse of the Night is an Action-Platformer that was clearly inspired by Castlevania III, and it does a fantastic job of honoring the legacy of that game while updating the gameplay to be better-suited to modern sensibilities. I wish the game were longer, and I wish it went even farther in updating the classic Castlevania formula to suit the modern day, but largely this game succeeds and fans of the genre, especially old-school Castlevania fans, should consider this a must-have.
CaveblazersAction-Platformer / Roguelike144MBB+
tl;drCaveblazers is an Action-Platformer with Roguelike elements that plays like a more combat-focused version of Spelunky. It’s not without its rough spots, but on the whole this is a surprisingly delightful challenging experience on the Switch.
CrawlTop-Down Action-RPG / Party Game249MBB+
tl;drCrawl blends a Top-Down Action-RPG and a Party Game into a brilliant, original asymmetrical party game that makes for a fun and unique competition that has a clever approach to game balance. The game could have used a traditional campaign mode, and some of the bosses don’t feel as nicely balanced as the rest of the game, but overall this is a fantastic game that should make for a great time at parties.
Crypt StalkerCompilation / Action-Platformer143MBB+
tl;dr Crypt Stalker is a Compilation of two (and a half) versions of Action-Platformer games inspired by the classic NES and Game Boy Castlevania games, and they succeed at this task beautifully. There are certainly some issues I could nitpick, but overall this is a delightful package that is well worth the $7 price tag.
DownwellArcade / Platformer65MBB+
tl;drDownwell is an Arcade-style game with Platforming elements, where you are dropping at high speeds down a well while avoiding enemies. Its simple visuals keep the focus on the fast-paced, addictive gameplay, and even though it’s punishingly difficult, you’ll still want to keep coming back for another attempt.
Football Heroes TurboSports (Football)229MBB+
tl;drFootball Heroes Turbo is a silly, cartoony, arcadey game of Football that has players getting into fistfights and scoring money for good plays. It is also an absolute blast to play, and while it can get a bit chaotic at times (and the online lobbies are apparently empty), until the Switch sees a port of Madden, this may very well be the best football game on the console.
Hidden in Plain SightStealth / Party Game80MBB+
tl;drHidden in Plain Sight is a Stealth-focused Party Game where players try to figure out which character in a crowd they and their opponents are before everyone else does while performing a simple task. This game doesn’t look like much, but it’s extremely accessible and loads of fun for both veteran gamers and casual gamers alike. If you want a fun, unique Party game to add to your collection, consider this game a must-have.
Horizon Shift ’81Arcade / Shmup124MBB+
tl;drHorizon Shift ’81 is an Arcade-Style game with Shmup elements that incorporates elements of multiple early-80s retro arcade games while still bringing its own unique horizontal-swapping twist on the genre. This is a fantastic game and a wonderful love letter to an era of gaming, although like the games of that era it can be repetitive in places. Overall, this is a superb game well worth playing.
IconoclastsMetroidvania173MBB+
tl;drIconoclasts is a Metroidvania game with strong gameplay, an interesting story, charming characters, a good soundtrack, and an appealing art style. But it also has its fair share of frustrations, in part because some of those elements don’t seem to fit together as well as I’d like.
Inferno 22-Stick Shooter104MBB+
tl;drInferno 2 is a straightforward 2-Stick Shooter that has solid gameplay, a slick presentation, and good Co-Op. It’s a bit on the easy side, but fans of the genre will find it to be an excellent choice, especially for its low price tag.
Katana ZeroAction-Platformer244MBB+
tl;drKatana Zero is a fast-paced Action-Platformer that has you playing a drug-fueled samurai assassin in an 80s-inspired setting, fighting through hordes of enemies where one hit kills. It’s a lot of fun and makes for some great action… except for those times when you get stuck dying again and again because of how unforgiving the game can be.
Kero BlasterAction-Platformer77MBB+
tl;drKero Blaster is an Action-Platformer that’s far less ambitious in its scope than the developer’s former work, Cave Story, but it is nevertheless a fun smaller experience that’s no less worth playing.
Maggie the MagnetPuzzle-Platformer145MBB+
tl;drMaggie the Magnet is a family-friendly physics-based Puzzle-Platformer where players control a magnet by turning on and off its magnetism. The simple one-button gameplay is well-crafted, and combines with excellent level design to make for a thoroughly enjoyable Puzzle game, with a surprisingly hefty amount of content for its small $5 price tag. If you’re a fan of Puzzle games, Maggie the Magnet is well worth picking up.
Metaloid: OriginAction-Platformer66MBB+
tl;drMetaloid is an Action-Platformer with gameplay that seems straight out of the Mega Man X series, although this game takes a completely different approach to its game structure and weapon upgrades. Fans of classic 16-bit era action-platformers should definitely give this game a look.
Mosa LinaPuzzle-Platformer201MBB+
tl;dr Mosa Lina is a physics-based Puzzle-Platformer that spits in the face of genre conventions, giving players a simple task to perform and outfitting them with tools that may be wholly incapable of completing that task. it’s up to players to experiment and find unique ways to use their randomized set of tools. And sometimes players need to admit they can’t do it, give up, and try something different. This won’t be a game for everyone – some players will surely despise the high difficulty and the game’s absolute refusal to present something well thought-out and polished. But others will be absolutely delighted by the variety, wild creativity, and the bold decision to teach players the hard way that they need to be willing to admit defeat. At the very least, players craving something different in a Puzzle-Platformer should absolutely consider Mosa Lina a must-have.
OwlboyAction-Platformer232MBB+
tl;drOwlboy is an action-platformer with an asterisk next to “platformer”, since much of the game takes place in the air. This game has Metroidvania elements but isn’t quite a Metroidvania, and while there are a few frustrations, by and large the game is fun to play, and the music and visuals are an absolute joy to experience.
Part Time UFOArcade195MBB+
tl;drPart Time UFO is a physics-based Arcade-style game that has players grabbing things with a crane connected to a tiny flying saucer. The gameplay here is simple but surprisingly nuanced, there’s a lot of variety and some surprising depth, and while it’s not a very long experience, its low price still makes it well worth adding to your game library.
PolyrollPlatformer197MBB+
tl;drPolyroll is a family-friendly Platformer that plays like a midway point between a Sonic game and a Mario game, and the result is something that’s actually pretty enjoyable. It’s definitely not going to win any prizes for originality, but what it lacks in originality it more than makes up for with well-crafted gameplay and quality level design. Add to that an appealing $5 price tag and you have a game that Platformer fans should definitely check out.
Puzzle Quest: The Legend ReturnsPuzzle / RPG211MBB+
tl;drPuzzle Quest: The Legend Returns is an HD remaster of the classic Puzzle/RPG hybrid that adds in a slew of new content. This is a fantastic game with compelling gameplay that’s greater than the sum of its parts, and this is the absolute best version of the game, but it is also a game that definitely shows its age in some places.
Rogue LegacyAction-Platformer Roguelike224MBB+
tl;drRogue Legacy is an action-platformer Roguelike that gives players a great sense of progression as they build up their family line with each attempt at exploring the cursed castle. The gameplay and presentation is a bit on the simple side, but the game manages to be charming and enjoyable regardless. Well worth giving a look.
Savage HalloweenAction-Platformer235MBB+
tl;drSavage Halloween is an Action-Platformer with old-school charm that has players blasting monstrous enemies with an arsenal of guns. This game doesn’t do anything especially original, but overall it’s a fantastic Action-Platformer, and an absolute steal at $5.
Shakedown: HawaiiTop-Down Open-World Action-RPG173MBB+
tl;drShakedown: Hawaii, like its predecessor Retro City Rampage, is an Open-World Top-Down Action-RPG that looks like a retro-style take on something like Grand Theft Auto. This game ditches the pop culture references in favor of a satire of capitalism, and places a much greater focus on its Open-World elements, and I think it’s a much better game for it. There are still areas I think it could improve on, but overall this is an excellent Open-World Action-RPG well worth picking up.
Super HydorahBullet Hell Shmup213MBB+
tl;drSuper Hydorah is a Bullet Hell Shmup that is very clearly imitating the classic Gradius games, and for the most part, it succeeds at this brilliantly. The music is forgettable, and the power-up system is a bit more limited than the Gradius games, but the gameplay here is still superb, and the game does some really inventive stuff with Co-Op, especially with the surprisingly good Robot Chase minigame. Definitely worth a look for fans of the genre.
The Bug ButcherArcade218MBB+
tl;drThe Bug Butcher is an Arcade-style game designed in the style of the classic game Super Buster Bros. The game has good, fast-paced action, good variety in its gameplay, and fun character designs and animation. It’s a shame the levels themselves are so bland, though.
The TourystAction-RPG204MBB+
tl;drThe Touryst is an Action-RPG similar to the classic Zelda games, minus the combat, where players play a tourist exploring a series of islands and solving puzzles. There’s a lot of variety and creativity here, but it frequently lacks depth, and occasionally has tedious backtracking. There’s also absolutely terrible platforming with a horrible, uncooperative camera. There’s a lot to love in this game, but a lot to be frustrated with as well. Overall it’s still worth playing, despite its glaring imperfections.
Tricky TowersFalling Block Puzzle147MBB+
tl;drTricky Towers is a family-friendly physics-based falling block puzzle game where players try to balance and stack blocks to accomplish a specific goal. While the game could have used more content and options, overall this is a good entry in the genre, especially in local multiplayer mode.
Wilmot’s WarehousePuzzle104MBB+
tl;drWilmot’s Warehouse is a family-friendly Puzzle game that has players sorting boxes as they see fit, and then looking for specific boxes to fill customer orders. It’s a simple game with compelling puzzle gameplay that lets players decide the best way to go about doing things, and it’s even better in co-op. I wish the game had more gameplay modes that didn’t rush the player, but overall this is a solid entry in the genre, especially if you have a friend to play with.
Zumba GardenMatch-3 Puzzle70MBB+
tl;dr Zumba Garden is a family-friendly Match-3 Puzzle game which, like its predecessor, is clearly copying the Zuma formula, and like its predecessor it does a surprisingly good job of it. In fact, this time I would argue things are even better, with a solid presentation and an outstanding RPG-style upgrade system. There are a few options and game modes I wish this game had, and a few minor complaints here and there, but it’s hard to complain when for only $3, we’re getting a “copycat” game that’s nearly as good as the original. If you’re a Puzzle game fan on Nintendo Switch, this is definitely one to get.
