Inexplicably, the reader decided to take a header right off the edge of a cliff. Why they would choose to do something so clearly suicidal, I don’t know. Perhaps the feeling of power at holding the REVOLVER made them feel invincible, like nothing the world could throw at them was capable of taking them down, not so long as they held in their hands the power of cold steel and lead bullets. Truly they are living the American dream, a dream of freedom, where no one can tell them what to do, even if what people are telling them is not to dive head-first off of a cliff. However, surely the reader knew best, and as the ground rushed up to meet them, they steadied their weapon, took aim, and unloaded every last bullet they had right into the onrushing ground. Surely that would teach the ground to know its place.
Now, I’m not one to challenge your worldview. Perhaps you truly believe that a hot-blooded American with a gun can accomplish anything. Perhaps you envision the kickback of the weapon halting your fall, with you landing safely as a bald eagle screams overhead and the smell of fresh-baked apple pie wafts in the summer breeze, followed by you mounting a horse and riding off into the sunset.
Or, alternately, perhaps the laws of physics do not rewrite themselves simply because some gun fetishist with more testosterone than sense decides to ignore all logic in favor of machismo.
I’ll let you decide how to interpret this ending. However, regardless of how you interpret it, this is an ending.
