Review:
Flip It is a Puzzle-Platformer released in 2024 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. This game has players changing the direction of gravity to get a green square to a red exit flag.
The presentation here is extremely simple, with very basic and plain-looking 2D pixel art visuals backed by an extremely repetitive piano theme that you’ll want to mute within a few minutes of playing the game. What’s more, the interface looks extremely amateurish and slapped-together.
Despite the basic presentation, the gameplay here is actually fairly clever, making players think through movements to navigate without hitting a spike or falling off the platform. Players cannot jump and they cannot change direction when falling, so nothing here is based on reflexes or timing, it’s all down to thinking things through, and the level design is pretty decent.
It’s also pretty simple and straightforward, and with only 24 levels, you’ll be finished with this game pretty quickly. I suppose that’s not too terrible, as this game is only $1.50, but it still means that this will only ever be a bite-sized experience.
Still, while Flip It is only a bite-sized experience, it’s reasonably enjoyable while it lasts. I don’t think this game is likely to make a huge impact for anyone, or even be an especially memorable game once you’ve completed it, but it’s entertaining enough while it lasts. If you’re looking for a Puzzle-Platformer to kill an hour or so, there are worse ways to do it.
tl;dr – Flip It is a Puzzle-Platformer where players guide a square to an exit flag by swapping the direction of gravity. The basic presentation and simple gameplay is enjoyable enough thanks to some good level design, but the game is so simple and short that it’s not likely to be memorable. Still, I suppose it’s entertaining enough while it lasts.
