Nintendo just released one more game on their Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack’s Game Boy Advance app. Let’s have a look!
Game Boy Advance App
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones | Turn-Based Strategy-RPG | 1 | A- |
tl;drThe eighth game in the Fire Emblem franchise adds in a few minor new elements to the series like multiple “class evolution” options. However, for the most part, this is the same sort of gameplay that was in the prior Fire Emblem game, with the same strengths and weaknesses – again, the linear progression and permadeath aren’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but regardless this is still an outstanding Strategy-RPG that genre fans should consider a must-have. | |||
I have previously reviewed this game in its Wii U Virtual Console release, and my opinion hasn’t changed – this is a solid follow-up to the first Game Boy Advance Fire Emblem game, and one that adds some new gameplay mechanics but is overall a fairly comparable experience. Which is to say, this is an outstanding Strategy-RPG that should be considered a must-play for fans of the genre.
This marks the second time so far this year that we’ve gotten a solo release of a truly excellent game on the Game Boy Advance app, and honestly I am just fine with that – I would much rather have a single release of a truly great game than a trio of “meh” releases. And if you’re looking for something to hold you over until the Nintendo Switch 2 releases, this game should keep you entertained for a while.
tl;dr – The Game Boy Advance app gets one game, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, and it is an excellent follow-up to the first Game Boy Advance Fire Emblem, and an all-around great Strategy-RPG that is a fantastic addition to the Game Boy Advance app.
