Review:

Gliding Square, released in 2022 on Nintendo Switch, is an Arcade-style game that has you guiding a triangle through 2D levels aiming to grab small yellow diamonds to unlock gates and eventually reach the level’s circular purple exit.

The presentation here is pretty simple, using geometric shapes against a flat background speckled with more simple shapes. This is joined by relaxed but repetitive music that doesn’t quite fit the gameplay and becomes tiresome before long.

As for that gameplay, the entirety of the game’s difficulty comes from its most annoying problems – it is far too difficult to steer your triangle, and the fact that it is a triangle makes it difficult to see the direction it’s pointing in. Were it not for these issues, this game would be a snoozefest. With these issues, it is instead absurdly frustrating.

In short, I cannot recommend Gliding Square. The simple gameplay and repetitive soundtrack is made worse by frustrating controls. Beyond this there’s just not much else to this game.

tl;dr – Gliding Square is an Arcade-style game where you try to pilot a triangle to an exit. Unfortunately, the gameplay and presentation are absurdly simple, and the only challenge comes from the game’s terrible controls. Skip this one.

Grade: D
