Review:
Twins or Tens is a family-friendly Endless Pattern Puzzle game released on Nintendo Switch in 2026 where players are tasked with clearing a gradually rising screen of numbered tiles, doing so by matching “twins” or “tens”.
The rules work like this: Every four moves a new row of eight numbered tiles comes onto the bottom of the screen, and if you haven’t cleared these rows by the time the ninth row gets inserted, you lose. You clear individual tiles by making horizontal, vertical, or diagonal matches of two or more tiles. These matches must either all be the same number, or must add up to 10. Once matched, tiles turn dark and are “skipped over” by later matches (such as the above image adding 1, 6, and 3 to make 10 while “skipping over” a darkened 6). However, the only way to clear tiles is by matching every tile in an entire row, causing above tiles to fall down.
If you have no matches, you can summon a new row early. And over time you charge up a hammer that can completely remove a single tile, causing above tiles to fall into its place. Also, there are bomb tiles that clear their entire row as soon as they’re matched.
If all of that seems like a lot, I can say that once you get the hang of it, it’s all pretty straightforward, though when I first played the game I found myself falling into the habit of looking for same-number matches and quickly losing, because the game really pushes you to make use of both match types to get rid of rows before it’s too late. Once I corrected for this, I found this to be a surprisingly compelling Puzzle game of the best sort, one that has you looking for patterns, seeing how making one match will clear a path for you to make another, and so on.
The presentation here is nothing special. It’s just various colored numbers on blue tiles on a blue background, which doesn’t look bad but doesn’t impress in any way. This is backed by upbeat music that’s decent enough background music, if a bit repetitive. In the end, this isn’t a game that’s going to win anyone over with its presentation, and it doesn’t really try to do that either.
While I can’t really fault the simple presentation, there are some faults I can point to here, though it mostly amounts to missed opportunities. There’s no multiplayer, no puzzle mode, no game variants. When it comes to content, this game is extremely limited – you just have the main endless gameplay mode, and that’s it.
The thing is, that one game mode is really all Twins or Tens needs. While I do wish that there were more content, variety, and game modes here, the core Endless Pattern Puzzle gameplay of Twins or Tens is quite strong, and while this is a simple and unimpressive-looking Puzzle game, I think any fan of this style of Puzzle game will quickly find this to be an excellent addition to their collection, well worth picking up.
tl;dr – Twins or Tens is a family-friendly Endless Pattern Puzzle game that has players matching numbered tiles by lining up matching numbers or numbers that add to 10. Once you get a grasp for the gameplay, this is a really compelling Puzzle game that can easily get you hooked. And while I’m disappointed by its lack of features, content, and variety, the core gameplay is so strong that I would still say this is a game that is absolutely worth picking up for Puzzle Game fans.
