Review:
Rastan Saga II, sometimes titled Nastar Warrior, is an Arcade-style Action-Platformer released in 1989 in arcades. This modern release sees the game coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2024.
Like its predecessor, Rastan Saga II is an Action-Platformer with a “Conan the Barbarian” medieval fantasy aesthetic that has players taking the role of a muscular warrior fighting through hordes of enemies. This sequel features improved visuals, digitized voice clips, and gameplay that’s even clunkier and slower-paced than the original game, with some bad hit detection to boot. Yeah, this is just awful.
This release of the game includes a new “Hi-Score Mode” that challenges players to score as much as they can in one run before seeing a game over screen. There is also a new “Caravan Mode” that does much the same, but with the limit being five minutes. In addition, this release of the game includes various display options, sound options, challenge modifiers, button mapping, and online leaderboards.
Overall, even fans of Rastan Saga would feel let down by this game. It looks and sounds better, but plays much worse, and that’s compared to a game that I already felt aged very poorly. In short, do not waste money on this terrible game.
tl;dr – Rastan Saga II is an Action-Platformer with a “Conan the Barbarian” aesthetic, and while the previous game aged poorly, this sequel is just straight-up terrible, with slow and clunky movement and poor hit detection. Do not waste money on this.
Grade: D
