Review:

Cyber Hook is a game that has the unique distinction of being both perfect for Nintendo Switch, and also terrible on Nintendo Switch. The gyroscopic mouse controls are integral to the gameplay here, and I cannot imagine this game without them. At the same time, the framerates on Nintendo Switch are absolutely atrocious. Perhaps Nintendo Switch 2 can help here?

Let’s take care of the most quantifiable change first: loading times. On Nintendo Switch, it takes 30 seconds to load to the main menu, 10 more to load into the game, and another 3 seconds to load up a level. On Nintendo Switch 2, those times are roughly halved: 14 seconds, 5 seconds, and 2 seconds.

As for performance, there’s not a noticeable change in resolution, but I do think the framerates are improved, though the difference isn’t as drastic as one would hope. I recommend going into settings menus and turning the “blur” option off for the best results. Still… man, I would love to get a Nintendo Switch 2 patch that brings this game up to 60FPS…

Failing that, what we have here is a modest improvement that does improve the game on Nintendo Switch 2, but it’s not a night-and-day situation. I absolutely adore this game, and would love to give it a higher grade, but as-is I will settle for saying that this game runs better on Nintendo Switch 2, but not great… but I still highly recommend it as long as you can put up with less-than-ideal performance.

tl;dr – Cyber Hook is a First-Person Platformer that has players speeding through levels and performing amazing acrobatic feats using a grappling hook. It is an absolute joy to run, jump, and move around in this game, a joy that is absolutely enhanced by the expert use of gyroscopic motion controls. On Nintendo Switch 2, the game benefits from slightly-improved framerates, but the performance is still well below what you’d want for this game, and it’s a shame because this game deserves better. Still, if you’re looking for a game to partake in great acrobatic feats, this is still going to be a must-have game for you, but be aware that the performance is less than ideal.

Review:

Go Mecha Ball is another game that suffers on Nintendo Switch due to framerate issues. I decided to look and see if this game fares better on Nintendo Switch 2. Let’s have a look!

I’ll cut right to the chase – while the resolution appears to be unchanged on Nintendo Switch 2, the framerates are greatly improved in a way that is instantly noticeable. It still hitches here and there when loading something, but overall this is a much smoother experience, and a much more playable one.

The loading times also show some serious improvement – on Nintendo Switch, this game takes 58 seconds to load the main menu, 17 seconds to load into a game, and 15 seconds to load a new level. On Nintendo Switch 2, those times are cut down to 30 seconds, 4 seconds, and 4 seconds. In a game as fast-paced as Go Mecha Ball, this is a game changer in and of itself, because the less time you’re looking at loading screens, the more it feels like you’re continuing the game’s forward momentum.

I do still feel like the resolution and framerates could be improved even more with a proper Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release, but even without one, Go Mecha Ball is greatly improved on Nintendo Switch 2, and if this game interested you but you were warned off by my complaints about framerates, know that this is no longer a major issue on Nintendo Switch 2.

tl;dr – Go Mecha Ball is a 2-Stick Shooter and Roguelike with some 3D Platformer elements that has players taking on enemies using a mech suit that can transform into a ball. The action here is excellent, combining the genre with gameplay elements from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Playing the game on Nintendo Switch 2 greatly improves the framerates and loading times, making this game much more playable. If you were holding off on this game for that reason, the Nintendo Switch 2 should make you reconsider.
