Review:

Infantry Attack is a Shooting Gallery game released in 2022 on mobile devices and then ported in 2024 to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. In this game, players man stationary gun turrets and fight off hordes of an opposing military closing in on their position.

The presentation here is mediocre, with unimpressive 3D visuals that even occasionally have some awkward animations, occasionally backed by generic-sounding military themes and joined by mostly-forgettable sound effects (apart from the odd wheezing your character makes as he runs from turret to turret).

The gameplay itself is decent enough, having you moving an aiming reticule around the screen while holding down ZR to shoot or occasionally pressing ZL to fire a more powerful rocket that has a cooldown. There are also medals to shoot that can increase your fire rate for the remainder of the level.

The game does a good job giving players different types of enemies to fight and slightly different scenarios, and there’s an upgrade system, but in the end the gameplay is still pretty repetitive and shallow. There’s not much challenge early on, and when you do encounter difficulty the answer is usually to just grind to buy improved permanent upgrades.

In the end, as Shooting Gallery Games go, Infantry Attack is decent, but not at all exceptional. It’s enjoyable enough in short sessions and has enough variety to keep things from getting dull too quickly, but the core gameplay is still pretty repetitive. If you’re looking for a time-waster, this should suffice, but don’t expect much from it.
