Review:

Fairy Tale Fighters is a Fighting Game released in 2026 on Nintendo Switch, with a premise that you can pretty much guess from the title: yeah, this is a Fighting Game starring characters from classic fairy tales, such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Pinocchio.

The presentation uses some pretty ugly 2D pixel art visuals for its characters, in front of static 2D pixel art backgrounds. This is joined by what sounds like synthesized instrumental music that sounds like it might be stock public domain music. Overall, a pretty poor presentation.

When it comes to the gameplay, these characters are so squat and poorly-animated that it’s difficult to make out their individual moves, and the moves themselves are so poorly-balanced, stilted in their timing, and with clunky movements. As a result, you can button-mash or spam attacks and it’ll often be more successful than trying to use any sort of strategy.

In short, Fairy Tale Fighters is an abysmal Fighting Game, one that looks ugly, controls poorly, and has nothing going for it beyond its core concept, and that’s only novel for a few minutes before you realize that the Darkstalkers series did something similar over three decades ago, but with way better graphics and gameplay than this game has. And while, yes, this game is only $3, but if you’re willing to spend $8, you can get one of the truly excellent ACA NEOGEO Fighting Games that absolutely put this game to shame. In any case, even at this low price, Fairy Tale Fighters is a waste of money.

tl;dr – Fairy Tale Fighters is, well, a Fighting Game starring classic fairy tale characters, like Cinderella, Pinocchio, and Red Riding Hood. This game looks ugly, controls poorly, and seems amateurishly slapped-together. It may only be $3, but even that price doesn’t make this game worth buying.
