Review:

Speed Boom is a 3D Platformer released in 2026 on Nintendo Switch, with players running around in a large city trying to get from point A to point B as speedily as possible.

The presentation here is not great, with simple 3D visuals with some pretty terrible pop-in, backed by a fast-paced anime-inspired soundtrack that gets repetitive very quickly.

Speaking of things that get repetitive quickly, let’s talk about the gameplay. Here, you’re just getting from one spot to another as fast as you can, and then doing that all over again. Players can jump, use a pointless slide move, and wall-run, and that’s about it, and as players complete missions and collect coins from around the map, you can spend these to upgrade your abilities.

There are only 40 missions, and they all start to blend in to each other pretty quickly thanks to a city design that’s extremely repetitive. The game does occasionally shake things up by having a goal atop one of the buildings forcing you to wall-run, but mostly you’ll just be sprinting on the ground to your destination, with the only nuance being avoiding the waist-high barriers blocking most sidewalks.

Despite the simplicity and repetition, the platforming here can be enjoyable, and as you gradually power up your character you do start to get a good sense of speed. But when it comes to speedy platformers, I still feel like this doesn’t hold a candle to the likes of Crumble and Cyber Hook.

Overall, I think Speed Boom is still enjoyable while it lasts, though it doesn’t last for very long – you’ll be done with its 40 repetitive levels within a few hours. And with the shallow, repetitive, and short nature of this game, I think the $10 price is a bit too high. However, if you find this on sale and want a simple fun Platformer to kill a few hours, you might find Speed Boom worth checking out.

tl;dr – Speed Boom is a 3D Platformer that has players running from one point to another in a city as quickly as possible. This game is shallow and repetitive, but its gameplay is enjoyable enough to carry you through the short few hours it lasts. It’s not really worth the $10 it’s priced at, but if you catch this on sale, it may be worth picking up for a brief distraction.
