Review:

Bandit Trap is an online-only 3v1 Team Competitive Party Game released in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. In this game, three players take the role of bandits breaking into a house to search for and obtain ten treasures hidden away in the household’s furniture, while one player takes the role of a home defense robot fending off those burglars using a multitude of traps, also hidden within the furniture.

The presentation here is colorful and features cartoony abstract 3D characters in its nicely-detailed brightly-colored cartoony 3D house, all backed by a bombastic soundtrack to highlight the over-the-top hijinks of the action in the game. This is all appealing with a family-friendly presentation to it, though I think this might be somewhat misleading.

That’s because the gameplay here isn’t super-intuitive, and even after taking the game’s two tutorials (one for each side), I still felt confused about what I was doing. What’s effectively the difference between the tools the bandits can acquire? What can the robot do when there’s no furniture left in a section of the house to booby-trap? Is there really no better way for bandits to find loot than to slowly scan every piece of furniture while also dealing with every piece of furniture potentially jumping out at them with a trap?

It was confusing enough that some matches I would end up winning despite that I kept having nothing but trouble, and other matches I felt like I was doing super-well and still lost, and I’m not sure why in either of those cases. When a multiplayer game has players scratching their heads wondering why they won or lost a match, there’s something wrong going on.

At the very least, the moment-to-moment gameplay for both sides is enjoyable, with bandits gradually wrecking the place, and the robot dodging in and out of doggie doors to evade the bandits. But even these moments of fun don’t make up for the confusion, frustration, and tedium the game pushes players through. As a result, I can’t really recommend Bandit Trap when there are better multiplayer games available on the Nintendo Switch 2.

tl;dr – Bandit Trap is an online-only 3v1 Party Game where three players take the role of bandits searching furniture in a house for hidden treasure, and one player taking the role of a home defense robot. While there are moments of fun here, the game is confusing and overly-complicated, to the point where I wouldn’t know why I won or lost. With plenty of other good multiplayer options on Nintendo Switch 2, I can’t recommend this one.
