Review:

Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack is a Compilation released in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, containing the DX versions of Atelier Ryza 1, 2, and 3, all games first released from 2019 through 2023, with the Deluxe versions releasing separately in 2025. I should note that there is no upgrade path available for those who purchased the original versions of the included games here, nor an upgrade path from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 – before you buy, be absolutely sure which version(s) you want to get.

I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:

GameGenre# of PlayersScore
Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout DXJRPG1A-
tl;drAtelier Ryza is the first game in the eighth series of Atelier games (the Secret series), a franchise of JRPGs with a focus on crafting. Ryza is leaps and bounds beyond prior games in the series, both in terms of the quality of its gameplay, its wonderful characters and story, and in its absolutely gorgeous presentation. This is not just a great Atelier game, this is a great, must-play JRPG, full stop, and this DX release adds a lot of content and value beyond the original release. It is only some frustrating graphical issues and a few confusing gameplay elements that keep this from being a contender for the title of best JRPG on Nintendo Switch.
Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy DXJRPG1A-
tl;drAtelier Ryza 2 is the second game in the eighth series of Atelier games (the Secret series), a franchise of JRPGs with a focus on crafting. Ryza 2 builds on the story and gameplay of the first Atelier Ryza game, weaving a more mature tale in which the first game’s characters have matured some, adding new elements to the ATB-infused combat system, and bringing back the larger, more open-areas the series hasn’t seen since Atelier Firis. This DX re-release adds plenty of new content and features, though the inability to upgrade from the prior release is disappointing. Overall, this is still a superb JRPG, but it has some issues keep it from surpassing its predecessor.
Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key DXJRPG1A-
tl;drAtelier Ryza 3 is the third game in the eighth series of Atelier games (the Secret series), a franchise of JRPGs with a focus on crafting. The third and (apparently) final installment in the Ryza series is much bigger in scope and adds new gameplay elements on top of what was in the prior games, but at the same time it also seems somewhat less-polished, and doesn’t quite have the “wow factor” that the original Atelier Ryza did. This DX release adds plenty of new content and features, improving on an already-great game, though not enough to justify paying full-price a second time. Overall, this is still a solid addition to the series, and a must-play for those who enjoyed the prior two games.

All three games are superb JRPGs with a focus on crafting, and these versions come complete with all previously-released DLC plus new content and quality-of-life improvements. If you bought the previous versions I don’t know if it’s going to be worth it to you to double-dip and buy again, but if you previously never got these games, there’s never been a better time to jump in, especially with this trilogy being one of the better jumping-in points for the entire Atelier franchise.

Oh, and as for which of these three games is the best… honestly, that’s tough to say – I feel like the earlier in the series you are, the more you get a great quiet Miyazaki-style atmosphere that’s simply wonderful, and I think the earlier games have the better soundtracks. However, the later games open up the scope significantly with more delightful exploration, as well as adding extra nuance to combat. Really, there are no wrong answers here.

When it comes to value, I should first mention that the original versions of the Atelier Ryza games all sold for $60, and that price was reduced in the DX re-releases, with each individual game selling for $40 instead, a much better deal. However, the $90 price tag of this bundle offers a huge savings over that, cutting $30 off the combined price. When looking at sale prices, it’s not quite as drastic a drop – you’re looking at a combined $84 to buy the three games separately, versus $81 to buy the bundle. It’s definitely still a discount, but not as much of a discount.

In the end, this bundle is an outstanding trilogy of crafting-focused JRPGs, three of the best games in the Atelier franchise, and a great starting point for newcomers to the series, and this is the best, most complete versions of these games (at least on Nintendo Switch – these games definitely have better visuals and performance on other platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2). If you enjoy JRPGs and have yet to play this series, this is the perfect time to try them.

tl;dr – Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack is a Compilation containing the DX versions of Atelier Ryza 1, 2, and 3, all three games being delightful crafting-focused JRPGs full of charm. This is the best these games have ever been (at least, on Nintendo Switch), and this bundle provides a good discount to buy all three at once. If you’re a fan of JRPGs and haven’t yet jumped into the Atelier franchise, this is the perfect time to do so.

Review:

Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack released on Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time as the Nintendo Switch version of the re-release trilogy came out, and sadly there’s no upgrade path here – no way to upgrade from previous versions of the Atelier Ryza games, and no way to upgrade from the Nintendo Switch versions of the DX games to the Nintendo Switch 2 versions. As such, it’s clearly important to establish the differences here so Nintendo Switch owners can decide whether to get that version of the trilogy or hold off until they get a Nintendo Switch 2 to buy that version instead.

The big change for the first two games in the trilogy is that the ugly dithering is gone in this version, which is a huge relief. Meanwhile, Atelier Ryza 3 feels more polished, with less pop-in and more environmental detail, with lusher foliage. All three games benefit from improved textures and shadow resolution too.

And this is on top of an overall resolution boost for the trilogy… but oddly not a massive framerate boost. To be sure, the framerates are more stable in the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, but they’re mostly not increased past 30FPS, save for brief moments, like the crafting menus. This is one of my bigger disappointments in this release.

In addition to this, the loading times are cut down in all three games as well, though this is mostly a fairly modest improvement. The one exception here is the time it takes to load to the main menu in Atelier Ryza 2, which is chopped down to less than a third of what it was on Nintendo Switch.

Oh, and as far as the price is concerned… this is pretty much the same situation as the Nintendo Switch release, with a bundle price that offers a good savings whether or not the individual games and bundle are on sale.

Overall, the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of these games are all definitely improved over the Nintendo Switch release, and I would go so far as to say this is a pretty good improvement too… but it’s not nearly as transformative as I would have liked it to be. If you previously bought any version of these games on Nintendo Switch, I wouldn’t recommend paying full price to buy them again on Nintendo Switch 2 unless you are a massive fan of these games. However, if you have yet to play this series, this is the ideal way to start, and the best version of these games to ever release on a Nintendo platform.

tl;dr – Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack is a Compilation containing the DX versions of Atelier Ryza 1, 2, and 3, all three games being delightful crafting-focused JRPGs full of charm. This is the best these games have ever been, and this bundle provides a good discount to buy all three at once. The Nintendo Switch 2 versions of these games also benefit from a solid improvement over the Nintendo Switch releases, albeit not nearly as drastic an improvement as I would like. Regardless, if you’re a fan of JRPGs and haven’t yet jumped into the Atelier franchise, this is the perfect time to do so.
