Review:

Stunt Paradise, released in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, is a side-scrolling 2D Stunt Racing game where players drive a car through various over-the-top obstacle courses, trying to reach the exit.

The presentation here is pretty good, using 3D visuals with a colorful, clean look and a lot of bombastic elements with explosions and crashes to make everything fit the game’s over-the-top themes. This is backed by a similarly bombastic electric guitar-filled rock-style soundtrack that fits the adrenaline-pumping pace of the game wonderfully well.

When it comes to the gameplay, this is pretty similar to something like the Trials franchise, with players just moving the car forwards or backwards, or changing its orientation in mid-air. Meanwhile, the game’s courses feature all sorts of crazy jumps and loops, and as you progress through them, various things will change around to keep things interesting, with switches moving platforms or objects colliding with the course causing parts to fall away.

The main difference between Stunt Paradise and the Trials franchise is that this game is more concerned with creating a fun ride rather than a grueling physics obstacle course. You won’t be concerned with shifting your vehicle’s weight or needing to worry about maintaining momentum to get over a steep rise, and overall the difficulty here is relatively low. Instead, you’ll be moving through set piece after set piece as the game contrives absurd situations for you to drive through.

Overall, I think Stunt Paradise is a fantastic take on the genre, though not an especially deep one – the low challenge level and lack of complex physics means this will be a game you’ll likely breeze through fairly easily much of the time, but it remains nevertheless enjoyable while you do. If you’re a fan of this genre, unless you demand a grueling challenge, I think you’ll find Stunt Paradise a delight.

tl;dr – Stunt Paradise is a side-scrolling 2D Stunt Racing game that has players driving a car through various set piece obstacle courses. This game’s design is relatively simple, and its challenge level fairly low, but if you enjoy this genre I think this is a delightful game well worth playing.
