Review:

Destructivator SE seems to be the same game as Destructivator 2, released in 2020 on PC, with this game coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021. This game takes place some time after an alien invasion that was repelled by Earth’s population, but at great cost. Now, Earth has sent its own troops to the alien homeworld to enact revenge and ensure that the aliens can never wreak havoc on Earth again.

The presentation in this game uses 2D pixel art with small characters, which generally looks good though the small size does make it difficult to tell at a glance if a character is crouching, which can make the different between a shot hitting or missing. These visuals are backed by an electronic soundtrack that works well for the gameplay, though doesn’t really have any especially memorable tunes.

For the gameplay itself, you’re basically going through each of the game’s levels, hunting down and killing all enemies. The core gameplay here is satisfying, if a bit repetitive, but thankfully the game mitigates this with good enemy variety, somewhat varied level designs, and occasional elements that mix up the gameplay like bosses and vehicles.

As Action-Platformers go, Destructivator SE is a bit on the simple side, but for only $5 I think it’s an excellent game to pick up if you’re looking for some straightforward action. It’s not likely to be your favorite game in the genre, but I do think you’ll have a lot of fun with it and it’ll absolutely be worth its low price.

tl;dr – Destructivator SE is an Action-Platformer that has players taking the role of a soldier sent to an alien planet to take out all alien enemies in each level to get revenge for an alien invasion of Earth. The gameplay here is simple but fun and with enough variety to keep things interesting, and I think it’s well worth its low $5 price tag.
