By now, I’ve reviewed a few Nintendo Switch 2 cases for just about every size in the range, from massive military briefcase-style cases to small cases that are barely bigger than the Nintendo Switch 2 itself. And at the extremes there have been some excellent choices, but I feel like midrange cases haven’t hit the mark quite as often. Thus far, the only ones in this middle range I’ve found to be a good choice are the ProCase Slim Soft Carrying Case, which is barely big enough for me to consider it “mid-range” and doesn’t offer much in the way of accessories storage, and the PGmoon Sling Crossbody Bag, which is an all-around good case but feels like it lacks the sort of protection you’d look for in a carrying case.

As such, I approach new mid-range carrying cases with a feeling of open possibility – will this be the case that breaks through and defines itself as the must-have case for its size? Let’s have a look.

Gestac’s case is made of a material that feels somewhat rubbery, but is firm and molded, without much give to it. So right from the start I feel like the “is it protective enough” question can be answered with a solid “yes”. The case has a few bumps for where the analog sticks on the console are, and features a braided nylon handle with a rubbery grip. There is one complaint I have here – there’s no shoulder strap, but if that’s not something you’re looking for then you’ll probably appreciate the simple, clean look the case offers.

Opening up the case to look inside, we see its one interior compartment is separated into two sections. Immediately inside the case, the interior is lined with a soft felt-like fabric, underneath which we have a firm fabric flap with spaces to hold twelve Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games. this clasps down on the space beneath it with a velcro strap to hold in the Nintendo Switch 2 console, which remains firmly in place when strapped in.

I should note that Gestac warns that this case is not meant for use with Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, or Nintendo Switch Lite – it is only intended for use with Nintendo Switch 2. That said, out of curiosity, I tested the case with my Nintendo Switch OLED Model anyway, and it seemed to fit okay, though the analog sticks didn’t line up with the bumps on the exterior. If you’re thinking of using the case this way, I will say that I think it should probably be fine for that, but just know that is not the case’s intended use.

Finally, pulling up the part of the case underneath where the Nintendo Switch 2 is held revealed something interesting, and a first as far as the cases I’ve reviewed.

The bottom compartment in the case is a decent-sized empty space with a fuzzy fabric interior and four velcro dividers that can be placed anywhere in the area you want, letting you customize the space for your needs.

I think this space is a bit too small to hold Nintendo’s dock, but it’s a simple matter to use a pair of dividers and the edge of the case to hold a Pro Controller, with room enough to spare for a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers in a Joy-Con Grip, a smaller third-party dock and power cable, or other accessories as needed. The velcro dividers are a really elegant solution to enabling players to use the case’s space how they want.

That said, while I think Gestac’s case does a lot right, it misses the mark in a few areas. Most notably, it lacks any sort of mesh bag or any compartment to hold smaller components or cables. And as I mentioned before, the lack of a carrying strap will be sure to disappoint some players. Plus, the $41 price tag seems a bit overly-steep for what’s on offer here.

It’s a shame too, because in many ways the Gestac Carrying Case is so close to that ideal I’m looking for in a mid-size case. It has a good amount of storage space while remaining reasonably compact, it provides good protection, and it even has some inventive features that can’t be found anywhere else. But the lack of space specifically for storing smaller items, the price, and the lack of a carrying strap result in this being… well, still one of the best mid-size Nintendo Switch 2 cases I’ve encountered. But not one I can point to as a clear winner in this category.

tl;dr – The Gestac Carrying Case is a mid-size Carrying case for Nintendo Switch 2 that provides some good protection for the console while also providing a decent amount of storage space, all while remaining reasonably compact. It even has a clever velcro divider system to customize the space for your needs. Unfortunately, it lacks a mesh compartment for smaller pieces, doesn’t have a carrying strap, and its price is a bit high. However, even with these issues, this is still one of the best mid-size Nintendo Switch 2 carrying cases on the market.
