Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition & Village Gold Edition is a Compilation released in 2023 on PC, 2023 on Xbox One, and 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, containing the two named First-Person Graphic Adventure Horror games, released separately on Nintendo Switch in 2026.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition | First-Person Graphic Adventure / Horror Game | 1 | B+ |
tl;drResident Evil 7 takes the Graphic Adventure Horror franchise away from the more action-focused gameplay of Resident Evil 5 and 6, instead making this a slower, more atmospheric First-Person Horror experience about a man searching for his missing wife on a run-down Louisiana plantation. This game has some excellent elements, including the new antagonist, The Baker Family. However, it also suffers from frustrating tedious combat and limiting inventory management that don’t add to the scares, they just detract from the fun. Overall, this is still a superb Horror game, but I don’t think it’s the major course-correction that many others saw this game as. | |||
| Resident Evil Village Gold Edition | First-Person Graphic Adventure / Horror Game | 1 | A+ |
tl;drResident Evil Village is a Graphic Adventure Horror game that directly follows Resident Evil 7, with players taking the role of Ethan once again as he finds himself exploring a snowy Romanian town beset by werewolf-like lycans. This entry in the series finds the perfect balance of its action and horror elements, with a bonkers crazy story that plays like a roller coaster ride where you constantly want to see what’s next, with a presentation that doesn’t compromise much from other versions of the game, leaving it still one of the best-looking games ever made. This is in my opinion the best game so far in the Resident Evil series, and an absolute must-have for Horror fans. Do not miss this one. | |||
It’s here where I need to take a moment to say that to some extent the amount you enjoy each of these two games will depend on your personal preferences. If you’re like me and you enjoy the Resident Evil series best when it’s more action-focused with bonkers characters and over-the-top set piece moments, you can’t get much better than Resident Evil Village. However, if you enjoy a greater focus on Horror, with more claustrophobic surroundings, then Resident Evil 7 is more likely to appeal to you. To be sure, I think both games are excellent, but I do think Village is on a whole other level. Also, I should note that on Nintendo Switch 2, both games play quite well, and come with all DLC included as a part of the package.
When talking about the value of that package, there are a few ways of looking at it. On the one hand, the $80 price for this bundle is indeed better than the $90 it costs to buy the two games separately. And the $60 sale price beats the $70 you’re looking at to buy the games on sale separately on Nintendo Switch 2. However… these prices look absolutely bloated when you realize that this bundle regularly goes for sale for $20 on other platforms.
As a result, my opinion of this bundle is somewhat soured, because there definitely seems to be a “Switch tax” in effect here, even if the standard pricing is the same across the board. Make no mistake, these two games are absolutely worth picking up – they’re both excellent Horror games, and the price is definitely better than buying the two games on their own, but if you really want to get a decent price you may be better off waiting until this goes on sale for something closer than the $20 you can often get it for on other platforms.
tl;dr – Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition & Village Gold Edition is a Compilation of the two named games, both excellent First-Person Graphic Adventure Horror games, each excelling in different areas, both coming with all DLC, and both running well on Nintendo Switch 2. This bundle is a good savings off of the prices of the individual games too, but the sale price is surprisingly high compared to what you can get on other platforms. These games are both absolutely worth getting, but if you want a really good deal, you may want to wait for a really good sale before pulling the trigger.
Grade: B+
