Here’s the games I have reviewed so far on the Nintendo Switch 2 in each genre, from best to worst. Note: If multiple games have the same score, they will be sorted alphabetically.
Graphic Adventure
| Game | Genre | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Lorelei and the Laser Eyes – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Graphic Adventure / Puzzle | B |
tl;drLorelei and the Laser Eyes is a Graphic Adventure game with an extremely strong focus on its Puzzle gameplay, with some really excellent puzzle design that will thrill seasoned puzzle-solvers looking for something challenging and original, but that might cause more casual puzzlers to balk. Add to this an absolutely amazing visual presentation and less-than-amazing controls, and you have something of a mixed bag that some players will absolutely love while others will hate it. Still, I do think the positives outweigh the negatives here, and the game’s target audience will likely be truly delighted with this game. | ||

Walking Simulator
| Game | Genre | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| The Exit 8 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | First-Person Walking Simulator / Horror | D |
tl;drThe Exit 8 is a First-Person Walking Simulator with Horror elements that has you walking down a repeating underground corridor watching out for odd “anomalies”. This game is short, shallow, and not very scary for a Horror game, and I think even fans of this particular style of game will find themselves tiring of it quickly and abandoning it for something else. | ||
.
Visual Novel
| Game | Genre | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Citizen Sleeper – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Visual Novel / RPG | B- |
tl;drCitizen Sleeper is a game that combines elements of Visual Novels, Graphic Adventure games, and tabletop RPGs, telling a story set on a space station in a dystopian future and putting players in the role of a Sleeper, an artificial person trying to survive after running away from their corporate masters. This game’s presentation is cold and detached, and the majority of your interaction with its world will be through text (and through dice rolls). However, if you’re not turned off by these elements, you’ll find this game to have an interesting story with rich worldbuilding, and fairly unique gameplay. This is not a game for everyone, but I suspect those who like this game will really like it. | ||
| Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Visual Novel / RPG | B- |
tl;drCitizen Sleeper 2, like its predecessor, is a game that combines elements of Visual Novels, Graphic Adventure games, and tabletop RPGs, telling a story set in a dystopian future and putting players in the role of a Sleeper, an artificial person fleeing from someone seeking to control them. This game’s presentation is cold and detached, and the majority of your interaction with its world will be through text (and through dice rolls). If you’re not turned off by these elements, you’ll find this game to have an interesting story with rich worldbuilding, and fairly unique gameplay. This is not a game for everyone, but I suspect those who like this game will really like it. | ||
| Dear Me, I Was … | Visual Novel | B- |
tl;drDear Me, I Was… is a Visual Novel without words following the life of a girl and exploring her connections to art, food, and other people. This game can be completed within 45 minutes, but the $8 price tag helps to mitigate this issue. And the lack of narration and dialogue obscures the story’s details in disappointing ways, but I feel like the absolutely gorgeous artwork and soundtrack help to make up for this flaw. If you’re okay with a game that’s short and beautiful but not something likely to stay with you long after it’s over, this is definitely worth a look. | ||
| Citizen Sleeper: Helion Collection | Compilation / Visual Novel / RPG | C+ |
tl;drCitizen Sleeper: Helion Collection is a Compilation containing Citizen Sleeper 1 and 2, both games that blend RPG and Visual Novel elements set in a cold dystopian future. These aren’t games that everyone will enjoy, and I believe that the minimal savings present in this bundle aren’t worth taking the risk that you might not enjoy these games. You’re better off trying one first to see if this series is to your liking. | ||
| Shuten Order – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Visual Novel | C- |
tl;drShuten Order is a Visual Novel that has players trying to investigate their own murder in a bonkers plot with bonkers characters, in a nation run by an apocalyptic cult looking forward to the end of the world. There’s not much in the way of likeable characters or coherent plot here. And while this game has some interesting ideas and a creative presentation, I can’t really recommend it. | ||
.
Interactive Story
| Game | Genre | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Mixtape | Interactive Story-Driven Adventure | A- |
tl;drMixtape is an Interactive Story-Driven Adventure that has players following a trio of teenage delinquents on their last day together before their paths grow apart. This is a low-stakes story that nevertheless features some excellent characters and absolutely brilliant, inspired, wildly creative visual storytelling. It’s a shame that the gameplay itself is mostly incidental, but if you enjoy seeing the videogame medium used in creative ways to tell an engaging story, consider Mixtape a must-have. | ||
| Goodnight Universe | Interactive Story | B+ |
tl;drGoodnight Universe is an Interactive Story game that has players taking the role of an extraordinarily intelligent baby, contemplating his life and existence, and the struggles his household is going through. The characters and story here are really compelling, and while the gameplay leaves something to be desired, that doesn’t stop this from being a unique and wonderful experience that’s worth playing through. | ||
.
Horror
| Game | Genre | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| The Exit 8 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | First-Person Walking Simulator / Horror | D |
tl;drThe Exit 8 is a First-Person Walking Simulator with Horror elements that has you walking down a repeating underground corridor watching out for odd “anomalies”. This game is short, shallow, and not very scary for a Horror game, and I think even fans of this particular style of game will find themselves tiring of it quickly and abandoning it for something else. | ||
