Review:
(Note: Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!, included in this bundle, is also in Cook, Serve, Delicious! 1/2 Bundle!! along with Cook, Serve, Delicious!. And all three games are included in Cook, Serve, Delicious, Trilogy!.)
Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2/3 Bundle!!, released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2020 and ported to Nintendo Switch in 2022, is a Compilation of the two named games, both Arcade-style games with some Simulation elements, previously released on Nintendo Switch in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
I have separately reviewed these games. Here is what I thought of each of the games in this collection:
| Game | Genre | # of Players | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! | Arcade / Simulation | 1-2 Co-Op (Local Split-Screen) | B |
tl;drCook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! is an Arcade-style game with Simulation elements that doesn’t play much like Overcooked or Cooking Mama. It’s more like a food version of Simon Says, with multiple steps for some items. The game does a good job keeping things interesting by having you manage multiple things at once, and it makes for a good co-op experience, although it’s frustrating that it doesn’t do a better job to make important information immediately accessible to players in the chaos. | |||
| Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! | Arcade / Simulation | 1-2 Co-Op (Local) | B |
tl;drCook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! is an Arcade-style game with some Simulation elements that has players managing a food truck and serving orders to customers. In many ways, this is the most streamlined game yet in the series, and while this comes with positive and negative qualities, one unambiguously positive addition is the new “Chill Mode” which lets players take on the game’s challenges at a more relaxed pace. Overall, it’s hard to say whether 2 or 3 is the better game, but I can definitely see this being the better pick for more casual players. | |||
In short, I think these are both pretty good games, and it’s hard for me to say which I like best, as each of them excels at something different – I think 2 has the better Simulation elements, while 3 is more accessible thanks to its streamlined gameplay and “Chill Mode”. However, whichever is better, they’re both solid games worth playing.
Okay, but what about value? Individually, the combined price of these games is $33, meaning the bundle price of $25 is a pretty excellent savings. Sale prices are a bit more iffy, though – each of the two games regularly drops to $4, but sometimes this bundle goes on sale for $2.50, a pretty good deal, and sometimes it drops to $5, which is actually worse than buying the games on their own. Also, with these prices, it’s worth considering upgrading to the Cook, Serve, Delicious, Trilogy! bundle, which costs $35 and comes with one additional game, though the sale price for that bundle is actually even worse a deal than this one.
Overall, it’s a shame that Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2/3 Bundle!!’s sale price isn’t more consistently a good deal, because it would be a lot easier to recommend then. It contains two great games, and most of the time it’s a good deal… but then some of the time it’s actually kinda’ a rip-off. As a result, if you’re considering buying these games, you’ll want to compare prices to the individual games before doing so.
tl;dr – Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2/3 Bundle!! contains the two named games, both entries in the Cook, Serve, Delicious series of Arcade-style games with Simulation elements, and both of these games are quite good, with each having their own individual strengths. The bundle is mostly a good deal too, though sometimes the sale price is actually more than the prices of the individual games. Be sure to compare prices before you buy.
