IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set and Grip is a bundle package containing two individual “sets” of components, the IFYOO NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set, and the IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set, with the former adding ergonomic comfort to the Nintendo Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 controllers, and the latter adding the functionality provided by a charging grip with assignable GL and GR back buttons.
I have reviewed these individual components. Here is what I thought of them:
| Name | Type | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| IFYOO NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set | Grip | A- |
tl;drThe IFYOO NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set is a pair of grips for your Joy-Con 2 Controllers, and they improve how comfortable these controllers feel in almost every use, whether on their own, in mouse mode, or attached to the Nintendo Switch 2, where they don’t interfere with docking. There are a few minor issues regarding the way the grips slightly block the left directional button and release buttons, but overall this is a great, simple way to improve the ergonomics of your play experience on Nintendo Switch 2. | ||
| IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set | Grip | C+ |
tl;drThe IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set is a grip for your Joy-Con 2 controllers that lets you charge the controllers, and includes functional GL and GR buttons on the back with swappable buttons. All of this works, but isn’t very ergonomic or comfortable. I recommend considering the IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set and Grip instead, which addresses this flaw in what is otherwise a solid Grip. | ||
In short, the NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set is already pretty great on its own, making the Joy-Con 2 controllers much more comfortable whether playing with them individually, in Mouse Mode, or attached to the Nintendo Switch 2 console in handheld mode. Conversely, the NexGrip 3 Set has some good features, but is just not comfortable to hold.
While uneven bundles like this often prompt me to tell people to just get the good part of the bundle, this time things are a little different because the NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set specifically addresses the main flaw of the NexGrip 3 Set – comfort. This leads to the pairing having the potential to be one of those “greater than the sum of its parts” sorta’ things.
So, does the pairing of these two grips solve the problems they have individually? Well, mostly, yes. Using the NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set while the Joy-Con 2 controllers are connected to the NexGrip 3 Set makes the latter immensely more comfortable, especially if you’ve selected GL and GR buttons that are more comfortable for your hands and fingers. However, having said that, I don’t think they’re quite as comfortable as Nintendo’s Joy-Con 2 Grip… which is particularly disappointing since I don’t think Nintendo’s grip is very comfortable to begin with.
Does that mean I think Nintendo’s grip is better? No. And there are multiple reasons why. First, the comfort you get in that grip ends once you remove the Joy-Con 2 controllers, while the NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set stays with the Joy-Con 2 controllers when you use them in other ways. Also, the swappable GL and GR buttons on the NexGrip 3 Set give a lot more options than you get with Nintendo’s grip. And finally, we should look at price.
Individually, the NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set is $18, while the NexGrip 3 Set is priced at $25. As a bundle, the IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set and Grip sells for $33, saving $10 off the price of buying both separately, and costing $7 less than Nintendo’s $40 charging grip.
So, while I don’t think the IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set and Grip is quite as comfortable as Nintendo’s grip, that comfort extends outside of the grip here, there are added features, and a lower price. And while I still have some complaints about both components of this set, overall I think it is a fantastic choice for players looking to add both comfort and utility to their Joy-Con 2 controllers, and at a fair price. This bundle is definitely worth getting if you use your Joy-Con 2 controllers frequently, regardless of how you use them.
tl;dr – The IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set and Grip is a Hardware Bundle containing two individual Grip “Sets” that both work with each other: the NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set and the NexGrip 3 Set. Each individual component has its flaws, but the ergonomic grip helps to compensate for the flaws in the NexGrip 3, making for something which altogether has a lot more utility than Nintendo’s own charging grip, and at a better price. This is absolutely worth picking up.
