While the Nintendo Switch 2 features numerous improvements over the original Nintendo Switch, one thing I don’t think has been improved all that much is the comfort factor. I don’t feel like the Joy-Con 2 controllers are much more ergonomic than the original Joy-Cons, and as a result holding the Nintendo Switch 2 in my hands doesn’t feel much more comfortable. In fact, with its larger size and weight, it’s possibly less comfortable.

Of course, there are plenty of different kinds of Grips to improve the ergonomics of the Nintendo Switch 2, but IFYOO’s NexGrip approaches this problem with a more minimalist solution, simply giving players grips that wrap around the individual Joy-Con 2 controllers.

The grips themselves are fairly simple, made from a combination of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), and Polycarbonate (PC), which is a high-tech way of saying they feel like they’re made out of plastic, except the grips on the back at the bottom which feel rubbery. They feel fairly sturdy, though there’s a hooking plasticky bit that wraps around the release buttons on the back that looks slim and flimsy enough that I worry it might snap off through repeated use.

To fit them on the Joy-Con 2 controllers, you can easily slide the Joy-Con 2 into them from the top, and they can be just as easily removed by tilting the Joy-Con 2 controller out of them to the side. However, while within these grips, they stay firmly seated.

Once the grips are attached, the Joy-Con 2 controllers can slip easily onto and off of the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, and they don’t interfere with docking. The hooks on the back make it slightly more difficult to press the Joy-Con 2 release buttons, but only very slightly so. I should also note that the added width and depth of these grips does mean that they won’t be compatible with some other products and accessories, like Nintendo’s own Joy-Con 2 Grips, though if that concerns you, you can always get IFYOO’s own NexGrip 3 Set, or even better buy IFYOO NexGrip 3 Set and Grip, which includes both grips.

So now, let’s get to the important questions. First: Do these ergonomic grips actually make the Joy-Con 2 controllers more comfortable? My answer here is a resounding “yes”. Whether holding the Joy-Con 2 controllers on their own, one in each hand, holding them in Mouse Mode, or holding them while attached to the Nintendo Switch 2 console, in each case I felt the experience was significantly more comfortable.

The rubberized grips on the back feel great, and give something more substantial to hold on to, and I think Mouse Mode is the biggest surprise here, with these grips giving you a much better feeling of control with the improved grip you get with your pinky and ring finger. The exception here is holding the Joy-Con 2 controller sideways like a gamepad – this feels like a bit of a mixed bag with these grips, as it makes the controllers more asymmetrical and heavier, but at the same time it doesn’t really make them less comfortable or interfere with their use, apart from one issue I’ll get to in a moment.

The second question: Do these grips cause any issues? To this I’ll say, a little, yes. In addition to the aforementioned issues with the release buttons, the edge of the left grip is close to the left directional button, making it now feel a bit recessed. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it does feel slightly worse.

However, overall this is pretty close to ideal for some simple grips that make the Joy-Con 2 controllers more comfortable in most uses, and come with minimal drawbacks. And while I do feel like the $18 price tag seems a tad high for what you’re getting here, it’s hard to argue much when the result is as good as this is. If you’re wanting a low-impact way to make the Joy-Con 2 controllers on Nintendo Switch 2 feel more comfortable, I would definitely recommend the IFYOO NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set.

tl;dr – The IFYOO NexGrip Ergonomic Grip Set is a pair of grips for your Joy-Con 2 Controllers, and they improve how comfortable these controllers feel in almost every use, whether on their own, in mouse mode, or attached to the Nintendo Switch 2, where they don’t interfere with docking. There are a few minor issues regarding the way the grips slightly block the left directional button and release buttons, but overall this is a great, simple way to improve the ergonomics of your play experience on Nintendo Switch 2.
