Elementallis is a Top-Down Action-RPG released in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This game has players taking the role of the child of a pair of renegade elementalists who years ago caused some sort of terrible cataclysm by tampering with elemental forces that threw the world out of balance. Now, the world is dying, and you take it upon yourself to set out and correct their mistake.
Elementallis is very clearly copying the formula of classic Top-Down Zelda games, and more specifically Link’s Awakening and the Oracle games, and the comparison is not at all subtle. I actually found myself thinking while playing this that players who were disappointed that Mina the Hollower wasn’t more like a straightforward Zelda game should definitely be looking to this game, because this one copies not only that style of game but the gameplay as well, in numerous ways.
Speaking of style, this game uses a 2D pixel art style that feels similar to the Super Nintendo era of 16-bit graphics, and while I don’t feel it offers the same level of detail as something like Link to the Past, it still looks pretty good. This is backed by a pretty good soundtrack that’s often subdued but that provides good atmosphere, with a mix of synthesized and instrumental parts, with some good examples being Familiar Hut, Rogentia Volcano, Fageda Forest, Fageda Town, Draganeu Village, Ice Temple, Cales Coast, Cales Town, Water Temple, to name a few.
When it comes to the gameplay, it’s tempting for me to point to things this game doesn’t do that Zelda does, because it is just that similar to Zelda. For example, I want to criticize it for your character not being able to charge their sword attack, but then I have to remind myself that this isn’t actually a Zelda game. I can say that the environments and exploration are somewhat restrictive, and this game doesn’t quite have the same depth as a Zelda game, but… well, there I go comparing to Zelda again. So I suppose that’s the main complaint: lack of originality, because this is so similar that I have trouble avoiding these sorts of comparisons.
That’s no to say this game is devoid of original mechanics, like its central element system, which takes the place of Link’s sub-weapon items. And this game is more story-focused than those earlier 2D Zelda games tended to be.
But by this point, I think you get the idea. Elementallis is a solid Top-Down 2D Action-RPG that’s pretty much a copy of the Zelda formula, and while it’s not quite on the same level as actual Zelda games, it’s surprisingly close. So if you enjoy those games, Elementallis should absolutely be a game you pick up.
tl;dr – Elementallis is a Top-Down Action-RPG that is blatantly copying the classic 2D Zelda formula as seen in games like Link’s Awakening. There’s not much originality here, but otherwise this is a solid take on that style of game, and fans of classic Zelda games should absolutely give this game a look.
