Nintendo Switch 2 Reviews: Game Compilations

Here’s the games I have reviewed so far on the Nintendo Switch 2 in this genre, from best to worst. Note: If multiple games have the same score, they will be sorted alphabetically.

I should note that this list does not include Nintendo Switch Online – Nintendo Entertainment System App, Nintendo Switch Online – Super Nintendo Entertainment System App, Nintendo Switch Online – Game Boy App, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack – Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack – Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics: Mature 17+, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack – Sega Genesis App, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack – Game Boy Advance App, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack – Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics, Capcom Arcade Stadium, and Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, all of which did not receive a review score because they are not a normal standalone release.

Game Compilations

GameGenreGrade
FortniteCompilation / Open-World Third-Person ShooterA
Included GamesFortnite Battle Royale, Party Royale, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, LEGO Brick Life, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, User-Created Content and Game Modes
tl;drFortnite’s early days may have been as a Free-to-Play online multiplayer-focused “battle royale”-style Third-Person Shooter, but it has since blossomed into a massive game platform with a wide variety of different game types to enjoy, and just about all of them are fantastic. It’s intimidating, poorly-organized, confusing, and not very user-friendly to newer players, but none of that changes that this is still a truly must-play game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is a far superior way to play it compared to the original Nintendo Switch.
Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe PackCompilation / JRPGA-
Included GamesAtelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout DX, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy DX, Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key DX
tl;dr Atelier Ryza Secret Trilogy Deluxe Pack is a Compilation containing the DX versions of Atelier Ryza 1, 2, and 3, all three games being delightful crafting-focused JRPGs full of charm. This is the best these games have ever been, and this bundle provides a good discount to buy all three at once. The Nintendo Switch 2 versions of these games also benefit from a solid improvement over the Nintendo Switch releases, albeit not nearly as drastic an improvement as I would like. Regardless, if you’re a fan of JRPGs and haven’t yet jumped into the Atelier franchise, this is the perfect time to do so.
The Disney Afternoon CollectionCompilation / PlatformerA-
Included GamesDuckTales, Chip ‘n Dale’s Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, DuckTales 2, Goof Troop, Chip ‘n Dale’s Rescue Rangers 2, Bonkers
tl;drThe Disney Afternoon Collection’s release on Nintendo Switch 2 comes nearly a decade after other versions, but gets an additional 2 games, bringing the total to 8 classic games from the NES and SNES, mostly Platformers, based on Disney animated TV shows from the 1980s and 1990s. While I have a few minor nitpicks about missing content, overall this is an absolute wealth of some truly great games with only a few stinkers, with a good array of features and extras. If you enjoy Platformers, classic games, or retro Disney charm, you should consider this Compilation a must-buy… but get the Nintendo Switch version, as this version offers zero improvements over that release, and is less functional because it only works on Nintendo Switch 2.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy KollectionCompilation / Fighting GameB+
Included GamesMortal Kombat (Arcade), Mortal Kombat (Genesis), Mortal Kombat (SNES), Mortal Kombat (Game Gear), Mortal Kombat (Game Boy), Mortal Kombat II (Arcade), Mortal Kombat II (SNES), Mortal Kombat II (Genesis), Mortal Kombat II (32X), Mortal Kombat II (Game Boy), Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade), Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES), Mortal Kombat 3 (Genesis), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (WaveNet), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES), Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PlayStation), Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade), Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (PlayStation), Mortal Kombat: Special Forces (PlayStation), Mortal Kombat Advance (Game Boy Advance), Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (Game Boy Advance), Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition (Game Boy Advance)
tl;drMortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is a Compilation containing 23 games (about 7-8 of them that are unique and not just different versions or alternate releases), along with Digital Eclipse’s usual hours upon hours of museum/documentary-style collection of extra content. There are some questionable choices and glaring omissions here, and many of these games are duds, but the best of the lot are still enjoyable and this package overall provides plenty to make it more than worthwhile for Fighting Game fans.
Simogo Legacy CollectionCompilationB+
Included GamesKosmo Spin, Bumpy Road, Beat Sneak Bandit, Year Walk, Device 6, The Sailor’s Dream, SPL-T
tl;drSimogo Legacy Collection is a Compilation of seven mobile games, most of which do some really creative experimentation with the videogame medium, a loving adaptation that makes the Nintendo Switch 2 an ideal platform to play these games on, and plenty of great extra content. For only $15, this is a steal, and players curious to play some truly unique games should absolutely want to add this to their collection.
Subnautica + Subnautica: Below ZeroCompilation / Open World First-Person Survival AdventureB+
Included GamesSubnautica – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Subnautica: Below Zero – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
tl;dr Subnautica + Subnautica: Below Zero is a Compilation of two Open-World First-Person Survival Adventure games that made the transition to Nintendo Switch fairly well, but look significantly better on Nintendo Switch 2. Both games feature massive, beautiful aquatic worlds to explore, but also don’t give players much guidance for where to go to progress. On balance, these are excellent games well worth looking into, but they won’t be for everyone.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4Compilation / Sports (Skateboarding)B
Included GamesTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4
tl;drTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 follows in the footsteps of 2020’s Remake / Compilation of the first two games by bringing together and modernizing the next pair of games in the Skateboarding franchise in much the same way. This release unfortunately lacks content from the original games and drops the open-ended gameplay of Pro Skater 4. And the graphics and performance on Nintendo Switch 2, while good, are underwhelming. That said, the core gameplay is still excellent, the three new levels are very good, and the addition of custom goals to the create-a-park mode is potentially huge. The result is an uneven and at times disappointing game that is nevertheless overall excellent, and an absolute must-have for Tony Hawk fans on the go.
Citizen Sleeper: Helion CollectionCompilation / Visual Novel / RPGC+
Included GamesCitizen Sleeper – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
tl;dr Citizen Sleeper: Helion Collection is a Compilation containing Citizen Sleeper 1 and 2, both games that blend RPG and Visual Novel elements set in a cold dystopian future. These aren’t games that everyone will enjoy, and I believe that the minimal savings present in this bundle aren’t worth taking the risk that you might not enjoy these games. You’re better off trying one first to see if this series is to your liking.
